Decided against using the UWE blackboard because it is slow to load and any information we want to share might not get to the other members of the group very quickly.
Google’s blogger is reliable, quick and we can use it’s API to feed it into our own portfolio sites as we publish useful information.

We have emailed each other with suggestions for the others sections. As we have carried out some preliminary research it’s been found that we find information useful to another member of our group

4. Research Questions

SEO
What are the different techniques available?
Given different scenarios or different sorts of website how do I get the most value for money out of these tools?
e.g. Large company with big budget, needing fast results
OR Small sports club with no money and more time.

Which are one off activities and which are ongoing?
How complicated are they and what do they cost?
How much will these different techniques cost compared to other marketing costs?
What are the keywords that need to be optimized for? (run a pay per click campaign first to find out)

SEO Initial Findings

All the techniques work together, to build and strengthen each other - the more you do, the better the results - these techniques are not mutually exclusive
Therefore, its all about finding the optimal combination for a clients business needs, budget and resources/involvement overtime

If a client wants a quick result - pay per click or hiring a PR agency for articles to appear on the web

If a client can afford to take a longer term view, other options open up, like trying to build their rankings through listing in directories, blogging, social media. It can take 6 months to work your way up the rankings, but is more cost effective once you are there.

Ideally a client will build SEO into their websites, but this space is developing so fast, many companies will have be more focused on getting something up and running.
In this situation it would be working with a client to rebuild their website, to also include social media feeds, so they might need a quick fix, plus a long term solution run in parallel.

Questions =

I am putting stuff together and this is the sort of lines I am thinking of.
These subjects are related so as I am thinking it through stuff comes up that really is in either, Dan, Louie or Craigs area so I have listed what those things are.

So these are the type of questions I have been thinking of:-
Martin - SEO

How do i get the most bang for my buck?
what are the different techniques available? which are one off activities and which are ongoing?
how complicated are they and what do they cost?
how much will these different techniques cost compared to other marketing costs?
What are the keywords that need to be optimized for? (run a pay per click campaign first to find out)

And then for you guys:-

For Dan there really is 2 sides, which is the one I was thinking about originally which was all about analysing looking (or seach ) behaviour as a person doing the looking and then there is the other side which is analysing people, ie customers, or audience, or users behaviour and patterns and for this you would use Google analytics or statcounter.

So for Dan assuming you have a website and are a company that wants traffic, and you have a marketing plan running that includes SEO.
Analytics is important and you would be keen to measure the campaigns effects/success.
So:-

What does success does like? eg number of conversions for sales or page views for viral videos
How are you going to measure it?
how do i best utilise free (google analytics and statcounter), paid for ( webtrend) and internal (e.g. list of members by age or when they logged on versus when they joined ) management reporting systems and analytics packages?

Craig
What is the best way to measure the return on investment on social media?
(This is the hottest question currently being asked. Basically because companies know and hear that twitter, facebook etc are important but they are interested in money so to them trying to understand the impact of the new social media and the cost of being involved, against the benefits to their business, is what they want to know right now, TODAY)

Louie - The tinternet being global.

How do I adjust my search for different countries and cultures?

Sorting out the rest of the presentation currently

Hope that helps

Prince 2, Project Initiation Document

If you are a bit in the dark over what we are doing for the interim assignment this is the background.

In project management circles this is a common thing that they do for large projects.

Yon need to Google:-

Prince 2
PID
Project Initiation Document

(They are all the same thing. )

And look at examples and templates.

Next
Take your lead question, there is one in each corner of the mindmap and break it down into smaller parts.

For example for Louie

Find out about? (i.e.Something)

Smaller questions are:-
What tools can I use to find something out?
What are the different ways to use search terms?

and so on. (I reckon about 6 should be enough)

The presentation of these questions can look a bit like a family tree.

And the mind map listing the topic areaas.

See you tuesday.
